According to Bloomberg , the administration of US President Donald Trump has asked Russia to mediate with Iran over its nuclear program.
Mr Trump expressed the interest in question to Mr Putin in a telephone conversation in February. Senior Trump administration officials subsequently discussed the issue with their Russian counterparts in talks in Saudi Arabia.
In response to Bloomberg’s question, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that “Russia believes that the United States and Iran should resolve all issues through negotiations” and that Moscow is ready to “do everything in its power” to achieve this.
An Iranian foreign ministry official, responding to a question about whether Russia was offering to mediate between Tehran and Washington, said it was “natural” for countries to offer assistance.
"Given the importance of these issues, it's possible that many parties will show goodwill and be ready to help resolve various issues," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said.
